Vessel Arrival and Inspection:

On December 20, when the vessel arrived at Samalaju Port, our port captain supervised the berthing process and oversaw the critical cargo hold inspection. We meticulously examined each hold to verify cleanliness, structural integrity, and readiness for cargo reception. This attention to detail is paramount to preventing contamination and ensuring the cargo’s safe transport.

Upon the vessel’s arrival, our port captain executed the following key steps:

1. Coordinated pilot boarding and vessel berthing.
2. Ensured free practice was granted promptly.
3. Conducted thorough cargo hold inspections to verify readiness for loading.

Loading Process:

Our loading strategy was carefully designed to maximize space utilization while ensuring cargo stability and separation. We employed a strategic loading approach across four cargo holds.

• • Started with loading Efesan ingots in the lower tiers using forklifts.

2. Specialized Handling:

• • For billets in Cargo Hold No. 2, we implemented additional security measures.
  • Used tarpaulins for extra protection where needed.

3. Efficient Use of Space:

• • Maximize hold capacity by stowing ingots up to two tiers high, where appropriate.
  • Ensured proper weight distribution and stability throughout the loading process.

4. Cargo Protection:

• • Applied plastic sheeting, tarpaulins, and sealing tape strategically to safeguard the cargo from moisture and potential damage during transit.

5. Continuous Monitoring:

• • Our team maintained constant oversight, adjusting the loading plan as needed to optimize stowage and ensure vessel stability.

Challenges and Solutions:

1. Mixed Cargo Types: Handling both ingots and billets required careful planning to ensure proper segregation and security.

Solution: We implemented clear separation techniques using fishing nets and tailored our securing methods to each cargo type.

2. Multiple Destinations: With cargo bound for two different ports, precise organization was crucial.
